At least most of the workforce will keep their jobs, that's the main thing.
When interviewed leaving work, you could see and hear how relieved the workforce were knowing their employment was secure.

Hi

I am pleased to see you complaining about the stupidity of the Tory Government in trying to block the EU raising Tariffs on Chinese Steel.

https://fullfact.org/europe/is-uk-ca...chinese-steel/

Interesting to note that Trump has lumped us with anti dumping tariffs on UK Steel sold to the USA.

If you did some research you will see that some UK Steel Production is being moved to the EU.

Those tarrifs by the USA are because we are part of the EU, same goes for Scottish Whisky - another reason for leaving, something you persistently change your mind about.

If we were out of the EU we would be able to control our own tarrif barriers as well - on chinese steel and steel from other countries.

N.B. If you hate the tories so much why are you quoting from the tory fullfact (remain) web site ?

Re: British Steel

It is no surprise as most of Central London property is now owned by foreigners including Billionaire Russians.
This Country's assets are being sold down the river for Capitalist profit

It really is disgraceful.

Made with yummy Australian iron ore and coking coal. Buy all you can, it's the best.

BTW before you all get too carried away China has had a cap and trade carbon scheme since 2017 (could even be 2016 - can't remember).

Yes I agree Azure...
If we still had vehicle manufacture here and shipbuilding we could produce our own steel in-house. Also the demise of the coal industry has also affected other companies including engineering companies who supported them.

People may argue that we still produce vehicles here like nissan, toyota etc, but most of the components are supplied from abroad and not manufactured here. The guts of this country have been expertly removed and the country is collapsing like a house of cards.

Globalism has done us no favours at all, but I fear there is no going back. To fulfil the needs of almost 70 million people a lot could be done here without the need to look any further. Jobs would be created and business and manufacture would flourish. Of course things would be more expensive to start with, but it's like a massive jigsaw, start farming stuff out abroad for the sake of saving money and one by one all the pieces will be lost.

That's true Bruce, Australia is one big quarry. Coal, Iron Ore, Gold, the list is endless. When the tree huggers (and Greta) are looking for somewhere to blame for the destruction of the planet they couldn't do worse than Australia...

Hi

Because our Politicians do not put ordinary people first OGF.

The EU allows restrictions on the sale of Companies which are of Strategic Importance, we are the only EU member who does not do that.

The EU allows Industrial Subsidies to Manufacturing Industries.

We are the only EU Country who does not do that.

We are Market Forces Mad.

Germany on windy days, and particular nights, produces more electricity than it uses.

Instead of closing down their wind farms at nights, it supplies free electricity to German Manufacturers.

They can do this, legally, because they are in control of their Electricity Companies, we have sold ours.

This gives a huge price advantage to their Manufacturers.

I despair, I really do.

I grew up in West Yorkshire, brilliant engineers, good honest working people, David Brown Tractors, Holset Engineering, World Leaders in Turbochargers.

Sold off because of short term gain, so many good paid jobs gone.

No long term planning, just short term asset stripping.

The British Disease.

Huge profits for the few, in the City.

Estate Agents and Lawyers etc earn vastly more than the real people who produce our Wealth.

This does not happen in other Countries, they reward the workers, not the Elite.

Engineers are highly valued elsewhere.

It is a complete nonsense that my Ex, Joy, earned a mint selling houses, with a Company BMW, whilst we do not value our Engineers.

It is also a complete nonsense that PR and HR Prats make a mint rather than those who do the job.

That can't be right - our much loved PM has told us (when he was Treasurer) that we have a strong economy that creates jobs and reduces cost of living pressures. When he was asked how a strong economy helps hard working Australians get ahead he brought out a lump of coal, it is magical stuff it makes everything better.

It is true, why make things when you have enough valuable rocks to dig up for hundreds of years to come and can export 65% of yourcountries food production to all you willing buyers falling over yourselves for a trade deal. To be honest I rather have our economy that yours. It won't last but lets make hay while the sun shines.
