Syrian prisoners .The ticking time bomb

There are thousands of Islamic fighters locked up in Syria .
They come from all over .
Many from Europe.
No one knows what to do with them .
They ( those in charge Syria turkey and the Kurds ) want their respective countries to take them back .
If we and other countries don’t have our nationals what will happen ?
Are we evading this ticking time bomb ?

Re: Syrian prisoners .The ticking time bomb

Difficult. Many countries have made the argument that these people are no longer their citizens and thus not their responsibility. However, it doesn't seem fair to expect Syria/Turkey to have to pay for their incarceration.

If we still had a policy of capital punishment for treason, then there'd be a relatively simple and cost effective solution. But we don't.

I suspect that we'll have to take them back and eventually have to pay for their legal fees and imprisonment, despite the fact that they really don't want to be here and live under our laws.

I agree Dextrous63. One of these 'ticking time bombs' is a New Zealander, although he was and is not in a prison. Now that Isis doesn't have the stronghold they once had, he wants to return to N.Z.
Our PM says there is no place for him here, but, he hasn't had his citizenship revoked, so he is still a citizen.
I'm expecting the UN to step in, what with their policitical correctness and softly, softly approach.

Re: Syrian prisoners .The ticking time bomb

We've had several discussions on here about foreigners who have come to these shores, committed a crime and have duly been convicted. The prevailing view is that these people should be deported either during or upon completion of their sentence. This is especially true when these criminals are not UK nationals.

Thus, it seems fair that Turkey/Syria should wish to apply the same logic. ISIS members weren't granted visas to come over to work and indeed most of them could be viewed as illegal immigrants.

The only alternative would be for an area of land to be set aside somewhere for these people to live, with extremely closely guarded border control which ensures that nobody is ever allowed out and that no weapons are ever obtained. This region could be funded (in terms of ground rent and cost of security) on a pro rata basis, by those countries who do not wish for these criminals to return to them. The occupants would have to become entirely self sufficient in terms of farming and no trade allowed beyond their borders.

This would, I suspect, be a far more cost effective solution than forcing their return to the original country of origin. Let them have their Islamic State, let others who want to be part of it move there, but above all do not allow them to spread their views nor MO's beyond their borders.

I'm sure that many on here would be happy with them being exterminated for the pestilence they've become but, realistically, this isn't going to happen.

Re: Syrian prisoners .The ticking time bomb

Hi

There is a big problem with them, and that problem is Trump.

He has withdrawn his troops, allowed Turkey to attack the Kurds, our biggest Allies in the destruction of ISIS.

They had thousands of them as prisoners, forced to release them due to Trumps stupidity.

Trumps response, not his problem, they were not going back to the USA.

So much for the Special Relationship.

He has sold the Kurds down the line, even though they were the ones who found the ISIS Leader.

We simply do not have the resources here in the UK to monitor them.

Neither Political Party has a reasonable Policy to deal with them.

Boris is no friend of our Security Services, in fact he is an arse.

Corbyn is even worse, he wants them all brought back and subject to UK Law, which is proof of every single offence beyond all reasonable doubt.

That is not how it works with Terrorists, they just kill the families of witnesses

Abbott and Lammy are even worse.
