I was watching a TV programme only the other day about holiday insurance, Rip-Off Britain Holidays I believe it was, they recommended going to an insurance broker specialising in this type of insurance. That way the specific risks requiring insurance cover would be covered and brokers also have many companies from which insurance can be purchased, at reasonable cost compared to the ordinary insurance companies the public have access to.

I was talking to them yesterday and they did not realise the importance of travel insurance so i have said ill see if i can help them get it . They leave in 11 weeks end of september .

I noted the money supermarket site but im wondering if any of you can recommend a company that takes cancer patients .

Thankyou
All companies I would think take travellers with medical conditions and the process always involves questions being asked about cancer .
I’m amazed that people don’t realise the importance of insurance even for a simple things like loss of luggage but to be taken poorly or having an accident neccesitating a hospital stay in America without insurance makes one’s toes curl surely?

Re: Holiday Insurance - watch out!

Zuleka totally agree . This lovely Hungarian couple speak good English but its limited . The husband told me his family were paying for the holiday so he booked the air flight online and it asked did he want insurance he ticked the yes box .

I think he ticked a box for delays and he thought it was giving them insurance . When I was chatting with him he had no understanding that he hadn't covered for health insurance .
I'll do what I can but think it's going to be difficult so I've asked them to bring all paperwork regarding her breast cancer ops and I've told him to go to the doctors for a letter to say she can travel

Just the cost of a hospital stay and treatment would be expensive enough, although in the EU costs are reimbursed if you have a EHIC card (I think that's what it's called).

Consider though the worst case scenario when every year 6,000 people from the UK are deceased and have to be repatriated, this costs a small fortune. The costs quoted on that TV programme I mentioned earlier in this thread were around £4,000 from the EU and £20,000 from countries further away such as America so well worth having insurance.

Baz, I think there are people who always look at the worst case scenario and those who don’t ? It’s simply totally unwise to adopt the latter attitude .
I know someone who was suffering from cancer and took regular holidays abroad without insurance . He never gave it a thought that he might have to be brought back to the UK in an air ambulance or . repatriated

What a shock when the results came through, out of three quotes, the cheapest was £933 for 10 days holiday in France!!

Much as we would love to go we are not prepared to pay almost £1000 for insurance and are wondering whether to risk just relying on the EHIC card. Wondered what others think.
Hi everyone. Can I just ask that you re-read my Thread titled "Travel Insurance for Existing Medical Conditions" on the Travel Thread. it was dated 28/01/16. Some of the replies I received back then were invaluable. I had been quoted between £800 to £1200 for my existing medical conditions COPD and Pulmonary Embolisms by Insurance companies such as Staysure and Saga due to the loaded questions by the underwriters ensuring that cost of their insurance was astronomical.

One of the clever posters on that thread gave me the name of a brilliant 5 star insurance company that charged for the same conditions for just £80 !!! Believe me, I went through it several times with them to ensure I was fully covered in all eventualities.

Give them a try. They are called WORLD FIRST.
I recommend everyone to ring them first for your existing medical condition insurance before having to resort to those expensive others.
