I think you are correct that supplies are running out only in the
Atraditionally dominant producer nations like Saudi Arabia and
other arabic suppliers but so far this is being supplanted by new
oil discoveries and shale gas etc!
However supplies will eventually run out if humans manage to
survive long enuogh??

The price of oil has also dropped due to a price war between Saudi and Russia Donkeyman....

Oil prices are down more than 20% with Brent crude trading at $35.98 a barrel.

Re: I told You So

The oil price fell 30% today because of a price war between Russia and the Saudis. According to this evening's news it's down to $36 a barrel, it was $50+ yesterday.

Not at all.
I lived during the war years when there was more land being put to producing food than has ever been since.
But don,t you think that these oil rich magnums will do everything in their power to stop any production of non fossil fuels. They, at the moment, hold the whip hand.
If memory serves me right I read a long time ago of one well known haulage company running all their trucks on sunflower oil. Do they still do this?

Yes that's right Bruce.
Russia have spat their dummy out when the OPEC countries asked them to reduce production due to less demand because of the Coronavirus (less travel) so in retaliation Saudi has stepped up their production meaning there is a bigger surplus and consequently prices have dropped.....
It looks like the coronavirus is destabilising the financial world....

There are quite a few companies running trucks on biodiesel from as long ago as 2007 from what I could find. One of them, McDonalds, run their's on old cooking oil according to the link below:

These other two links I found interesting, one of them from Sweden some two years' ago in particular, so posted them on here for anyone else who might also like to read them:

Thats great OGF! l expect the petrol price to fall soon then and then
all commodities should also fall due to the lower transport costs?
Or is there a flaw in trickle down economics??

I wouldn't bank on it in this country. Most of what we pay for our fuel is tax!

From your informative links Baz it seems that the cooking oil
option is actually preferable to using oil as a feedstock? It seems
cheaper and has less downsides than mineral oils?
Perhaps now is the time to scale down our dependance on crude
oil while the price is depressed? But of course once the price drops
then we will start using it again!
BTW l think Big Ben may be right when he says the oil companies
wont allow alternatives to Crude to be developed??
Or else they will buy out any competitors and then sit on them untill
it suits their purpose to develop them??

Re: I told You So

The first time I visited Brazil on a business trip in 1988 I noticed a funny smell on the air. When I asked what it was I was told it was the exhaust fumes from the car in front of us. All petrol in Brazil has been 10% ethanol for ages before then. The smell had a stale beer odour to it.
