Lawn - have the birds done this?

This morning I woke up to my lawn looking like this. I presume it's birds who've messed up an already sad looking lawn?

Not very clear images, so I hope you can see. (Taken on my tablet this afto on a dull damp day).

My dog does that if the lawns been newly cut. He likes to roll on it and he stretches out his front legs and goes on his side, the claws pull the bits out of the grass as he wriggles about. I usually yell at him to cut it out, but the bugger waits till I'm not looking.

Some birds will do that looking for bugs and insects Pesta, but a badger will do it while looking for worms and treats too.
There are also fox cubs around now.

Another thought . . . next door haven't got an escapee chicken have they?

My lawn is the same. I think the birds do it for two reasons. One is that they dig up moss and dried grass for nesting and the other is looking for bugs underneath the moss.

Nah, no chickens just the rats (and mice). I used to get foxes in, but not seen them for a while. They used to be around on the Close too making their noises at night.

Definitely not seen badgers around.

Oh good Mart, I'm glad it's not just mine
Yes, I wondered about birds digging up the moss for their nests. I've a lot of moss and lichen in my lawn.

Ah well. We're supposed to back to sunshine from tomorrow, I guess I'll have to clear it up.

Thanks all for your input.

I wish I could let some birds loose on my lawn.
