Pain patches

Has anybody used pain patches - either prescription only or OTC?

What is your opinion of them?

Before I had my orthopaedic surgeries, doctors were prescribing heavy doses on analgesics up and including Fentanyl patches. These were morphine based, but stronger than an oral version of morphine (Oromorph). They were ok, but the tacky glue used to adhere them to the skin wasn't that good and after a while they tended to fall off. In addition, they sometimes set up a skin irritation at the point they were attached.
