Re: Dahlias

How long have you been growing them for,Rehab?

I believe they need a lot of sun?

Are they easy to grow?

Re: Dahlias

I have been growing them for over 20 years, I have found that they do like a lot of sun but I do have two varieties in semi shade and the do well.
Hard to grow...no...they are a tuber and shallow planting in the ground or pots well after the chance of frosts is over, for me in the Midlands that’s late May/June, they are very greedy so need regular feeding and watering.
When I first started growing them in the ground I would religiously lift them after the first frost and store them, now I leave them in the ground because tge winters are warmer.
The pots I do put under cover each year because I don’t want tge tubers to get water logged.
There is a lot of info online which will explain it better than me, but try one variety in a pot and see how it goes?

Re: Dahlias

Resurrecting this thread on Dahlias, have the growers here dug their's up now, or left them in the ground and mulched them?

Those couple of frosts we had a week or so ago, blackened the leaves of mine so I have dug them up now and will dry off the tubers and store them.

I tried a new one this year, and absolutely loved it.
It is called "April Heather."
So very pretty.
