Yes Galty, don't think I fancy growing them either - but at least you gave it a go.

Sorry ...... somehow I’ve picked up the wrong quote!

Re: Tomatoes.

I need some advice and as it’s about tomatoes, I hope it will be ok to put it here, rather than start a new thread.

This year, l have grown loads of tomatoes. All are lovely, except some of the Italian type tomatoes.
These look lovely, until you look at the bottom of them and they have black or brown bottoms!

What, l want to know is... Are they safe to eat if l cut the bottom bit off? It seems such a waste and l wondered if l could use the good bit in Bolognese sauce for Lasagne etc?

Art & Muddy, I could be wrong, but it sounds like 'Blossom End Rot' to me.

Google Blossom End Rot in Tomatoes and you should be able to see some pictures to compare with yours.

Spot on its blossom end rot.

If watering toms never wet the leaves or the blossoms.

Only on this plant ( the Italian plum) the rest cherries and money makers have lots of fruit.
I bought five plants this year of different varieties.
The moneymakers and cherries grew by themselves as I used last years grow bag compost in the garden .

Re: Tomatoes.

We planted a few too many cherry tomatoe plants this year so we have to eat as many as we can or they just fall off and are wasted. They are so good in salads. Then my neighbour came over last night and brought me some tomatoes from her garden and told me she was going away and to help myself to her garden while they were away. She said other wise all the vegetables will rot so while she’s away I’m going to pick all her tomatoes and freeze them for her so they don’t spoil. She gave my some Zuchinni a while back so I made her some Zuchinni bread out of it . We have been good neighbours for over 20 years now and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
