That's a Tin bath, unless very much mistaken.

Yep. I even remember it. When I was just of 3 years old. The bath was being replaced. The others showered next door. I was little enough to fit in the kitchen sink. When the bathroom was finished I turned a big attitude because I didn't want it to stop. And no they didn't throw the plates and cutlery in with me.

Oh yes! Bloomin' big thing, I think they're called a Belfast sink. We had one of the first showers in the 'hood but up to around three it was in the sink. That and Lifebuoy soap.

No sink for me, I belonged to the posh tin bath brigade!

I would have been frightened of going down the plughole in the sink!

Re: Were You Ever Bathed In The Sink?

When we were toddlers, my siblings and me, were washed in the big kitchen sink every Friday. Old Mrs. Hooper from next door (may she rest in peace) used to pop in halfway through to try to embarrass us. As we got bigger we graduated to a small metal bath placed in front of the coal-fire and then, later still, graduated to a proper bath. Talk about luxury.

I remember the Wright's Coal Tar Soap, sort of orange looking
and with a very strong antiseptic smell too.

Same here, Wright's coal-tar soap or fairy soap (the one with the image of a baby complete with nappy pressed into it) depending on what was on offer at the local co-op.

Re: Were You Ever Bathed In The Sink?

I have said on here before, how my mother would put a splash of Jeyes Fluid into the water.

When we complained, it was stinging. She’d say, ‘Shut Up, it’s killing the germs’!

I have to say, the four of us were rarely ill, so maybe the Jeyes Fluid did do some good!!

Gosh, that took me back Baz.
I remember my husband many years ago, used to like the Coal Tar soap.
He also used to like that liquid 'Camp' coffee too.
Anyone else remember that?
