Camino de Santiago

I've just returned from a holiday in Spain walking 122 kms on the Camino de Santiago and have had a wonderful time. I booked through an agency which organised hotels/pensions/meals/luggage transfers etc but now realise there is no need to use an agency and everything can be arranged independently and at huge saving.

Certainly a recommended holiday.

I saw this on TV where a bunch of 'celebs' did it. Looked like a great thing to do but very tough.

Well done to you.

Yes - lots. Just decide how far you want to walk - you have to do 120 kms (I think) to get your pilgrims passport and get that stamped twice a day.

Decide if you want to carry your luggage on your back and stay in dormitories/auberge/pension on an adhoc basis (bearing in mind they may be fully booked by the time you arrive, so will have to walk further than you planned........and there have been reports of bedbugs), or have your luggage transferred for you and prebook hotels.

I walked relatively short distances, stopped when I wanted to, took photos when I wanted and stayed in some totally amazing places. Others walked fast, head down marching - not my thing!!

I've kept all my notes, so if you want recommendations on some fantastic places to stay, just let me know..........plus things to do in Santiago/Madrid.

Oops - nearly forgot. Join a couple of facebook groups - Camino de Santiago 2018/2019 and Slow Strollers on the Camino.

Thank you. It was first and foremost a holiday and I was prepared to get a bus when the walking got too much, but there's something complusive about it, despite blisters, arthritis and aches where I didn't know you could ache!
