Poor slug. It can't help looking ugly - to us anyway.

I'd hazard a guess that male and female slugs don't see each other as ugly.

Re: You know slugs...

Tess, you are a one

I've always wondered why we don't eat the garden varieties of slugs and snails, you know aren't they supposed to be delicacy? Imagine eating a slug, licking the slime off before popping it seductively in your mouth - slime dangling .... and all chewy and squashy, a real good mouthful

I remember years ago getting up in the morning, going into the lounge and the sun was shining on the dark green carpet, highlighting slug slime around the room.

Now, don't laugh, I phoned in work to say I was having the day off to wash the carpet and source the slug
Well, did I find the slug? Nope. And, never saw any more slime

Yuk Pesta!

I have sometimes seen slugs, usually on pavements that leave trails going around and around in all directions, as if they're confused!
Perhaps they've been at the beer traps!

Aren't frogs supposed to eat slugs and snails? I can't really see frogs taking a mouthful of slugs or snails somehow...

Hedgehogs and ducks eat them.
Some of the slugs I find probably eat frogs!

Slugger-mugger self-defence:

Some slug facts:

What animal smells with its body,
has more teeth than a shark,
and can glide without difficulty over glass shards,
propelled by the rhythmic contractionsof a single muscular foot?

Its blood is green, and while other animals wrap themselves in fur, feathers or scales, this animal protects its body with a layer of slime.
