Air travel

Do you lock your suitcase when flying? Is that just to specific country's or all?

I see there are USA approved padlocks which customs can open if they wish without otherwise breaking padlocks - how necessary is this?

Re: Air travel

I always lock my suitcases - whatever mode of transport I am using. If security want to check them - they can ask for a key. I have no objection to people keeping us safe.

Don't know about american rules/regulations.

Re: Air travel

Oh gosh! I always, always lock mine!

It's not just things being stolen from the case, but there's always the risk of things being put into your case, drugs and the like.

Try explaining that one away at security!

No matter which country I'm going to.

I even lock it if I'm travelling in England, the only exception being if I'm going by car and so would have my case with me all the time.

Re: Air travel

I wouldn’t dream of going abroad and not locking my suitcases. The way luggage is thrown about at airports, they would more than likely burst open all over the place!

Would locking it prevent that from happening?

It certainly would unless you use a very old suitcase with wearing seams.

Re: Air travel

Started doing this last year..

One of the smaller bags with wheels on I can get all my 2 week holiday clothes in and I put it as all other passengers do in the locker above my seat on the plane.

No need to wait around for an hour+ till your bag is unloaded.
