Grantown, Aviemore & Inverness.

Hi, fellow travellers. We're just back from a few days in the Spey valley, staying at Grantown on Spey in the new campervan....

Not many pictures, but here are a few..

Campsite and view above Grantown. Note remnants of snow on the mountains.

Used our bus passes to visit Aviemore. Very busy - 90% of visitors were either in their 20's or 80's . With the exception of Tesco, most places on the main street were restaurants, charity shops or outdoor wear shops. It was also pretty expensive.

The journey from Grantown to Aviemore is worth taking as it passes through sove very 'picture postcard' villages such as Nethy Bridge and Boat of Garten.

A couple of pics. of the Aviemore railway station which has a very traditional style...

and another view of the mountains / ski area taken from the station.

On the day we went to Inverness, the weather changed and it was as we say, 'Gey Dreich'. This summed up Inverness which we found to be bleak and decidedly shabby. I can find little positive to say about the city centre.

Of course, just outside the city is Loch Ness and the great glen - another world altogether.

Statue of Flora MacDonald outside Inverness castle. Look closely and you can see that she supports ICT.

And finally a view of River Ness looking towards Loch Ness.
View obscured by drizzle & low cloud.

Now there is a caravan park we are very familiar with been there many times when towing various caravans. Lovely area, very lucky you are close enough to have a few days there we always have to plan a week or more as it takes us a couple of days easy driving to get there !

Re: Grantown, Aviemore & Inverness.

Thanks for the replies. The van goes like a dream - it feels like a car to drive. It will take hills with ease and cruise at 70 mph on motorways with no bother. Have to be careful of the brakes - push too hard and it's like hitting a brick wall! So far it has given just short of 37 mpg.

Unfortunately just about everything rattles and getting everything packed properly is an art.

A couple of interior shots. Not my van, but from identical ones.

The seats make up into two singles or 1 double bed - firm, but very comfy. Windows have built-in blinds.

Kitchen area - hob, oven/grill, sink (with water heater below) and fridge (with small freezer).

Loo & wash hand basin. moulded in one piece and easily wiped down.

That all looks very well organised

It's a part of the world we know quite well - we've spent several very enjoyable holidays at our friend's place in Nethy Bridge, where there is a gate in his back garden straight into the Cairngorm forest. Lovely!

George your van looks great. I just know you will get so much pleasure from it. You've already been to some beautiful places. Just lovely.
