Wow! How did I miss this thread! The photo's are amazing from everyone.
I took this pic at Paignton Zoo this year. The lioness was inches from me, there was a glass window between us, luckily & she had her eyes on the free range Guinea fowl that were behind me. If no glass I could have touched her.
A few years ago my son got a job at Chester zoo. As part of the induction one of the lion keepers took him on a tour 'behind the scenes'. The lions enclosure had two very high fences separated by a few metres- a sort of corridor. The keeper took my son along this. A pride of lions was dozing in the enclosure- as the two passed by within a split second a female lion had launched itself at the fence and was roaring at the two. Apparently the keeper knew this would happen but my son said that he was shaking for an hour afterwards! He couldn't believe how fast the cat moved from prone to a leap over several metres.
