I ordered my first cookery book

Well not strictly my first, as I have a few 'non-lactose' or 'healthy eating' books, but this is my first proper one

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

It seems to have got some favourable reviews, esp from blokes starting out

Anyone else got it? Any others I should consider instead?

Good for you Azz, . . I see Delia's back on TV after an absence of 20 years, . . she's put a few pounds on too, . . oh well, we're all getting old I suppose.

I think that's one of the very best books you could have got Azz. Pity there's no DVDs but you'll cope - ask your aunties if there's anything you don't understand

Good choice Azz, I like Delia's recipes as they are very straightforward compared to others. Just shout if you're stuck on anything

Rocky will be going mad with all those lovely smells wafting from your kitchen!

Re: I ordered my first cookery book

A very good choice Azz

I have dozens of cookery books, all the Jamies, Madurs, and Nigelas included and I always end up back with my two old stalwarts (because I know their recipes work and some of the others don't )
these two books ..
'Delia's Complete Cookery Course illustrated'
and
'Good Housekeeping Step by Step Cookery Book'
...which is foolproof with little pictures of every stage , I think this is a more up to date copy than mine . All the recipes are thoroughly tested by the Good Housekeeping Institute.

Re: I ordered my first cookery book

Don't get me started on cookbooks!!!

I had a bit of a passion for cookbooks and bought everything from Persian to Vietnamese and Cuban fusion food.

One book I would recommend is http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lord-Krishna.../dp/0896470202 I love this book.

Re: I ordered my first cookery book

I'm a cookbook fan too. I learned to cook after my Mom passed away from her old Good Housekeeping cookbook, a 1930s version. I have Julia Child, James Beard on Bread, and quite a few Chinese, Japanese and Thai cookbooks as well; also occasionally check an interesting looking one from the library. Bon appetit, Azz, ask if you have any questions!
