Black Forest Cake

I have promised my husband a birthday cake and he chose a black forest cake. I have looked at loads of recipes and have decided on a devil's food cake decorated with black cherries soaked in kirsch and whipped cream.

Has anyone got any tips or warnings as I have never attemped this without the aid of a net and I want it to be delicious.

When's the deadline? Is his birthday soon? Never made one myself, good luck finding a good recipe, and yes, a pic would be very nice.

Re: Black Forest Cake

Good of you to remember. Well it wasn't bad for a first go but I made a few mistakes. First of all it was too thick and second of all I couldn't get hold of any kirsch so it ended up a bit bland.

Next time I will make more layers with cream and cherries and kirsch. The sponge tasted good and chocolatey but I was disappointed with the texture and will try again.

Hubs loved it I'm glad to say but I am always ultra critical of my cooking efforts.
