So it was an american initiative to set the naught in britain. Seems a bit uncharacteristic for an american, until you think: who wants to be A naught? Certainly not an american.

If you look at the attachment, you will see that the Paris meridian is a couple of degrees east of Greenwich, which means that, at 12:00 noon, the actual time in Paris is closer to 12:20 or 12:30 and not 13:00, which is Central European Time (run from Paris).

So Britain is observing GMT now? Oooops! oh no, it's an hour out for summer. Time can and is manipulated to suit local conditions and it makes a lot of sense for the UK to be on the same time as other European countries.
