Free us from the grip of the power companies.

The speed of technology eh? Do you think this is actually possible?

What an amazing and exciting development. Can't see how it will fail. Fantastic .

Wouldn't it be great!. Pity I can't see it happening, the might of the power companies combined would never let it happen on a world wide scale.
I still think there is a better alternative to oil and petrol for cars but it is keep from the public, there are so many fingers in the fuel and power pie that it would take a world revolution to yank them all out.

Sounds good but...

Night time? Power storage needed - usually costs more than the panel.
High heels/walking sticks/dog ends/leaves/dog shit getting stuck in the gaps?
Slippery?
Fags stubbed out on them
Electrical danger in a fire? It is dangerous enough when a house with solar panels catches fire.
Carry a 64 tonne road train?

Cost? How many $millions does it cost to built a 1km road with tarmac? I bet this costs many times more.

Pie in the sky. Won't happen. Solar is more useful for smaller scale project(s)

Yes sure does sound terrific in theory, just don't see it happening for decades, if at all. Like Jem said I believe there's alternatives right now & people have come up with ideas & the oil companies pay them off.

Right now over thisaway, farmers have these enormous solar panels on parts of their fields & there's the odd house with one on the property. Maybe it would pay for itself but you'd probably have to be 25years old. Unfortunately at our age it's not worth going into initial debt of tens of thousands of dollars.

Not sure storage of energy would be all that costly as we are only talking about leds. If you mean the energy produced is going to be stored somewhere well that wouldn't be the case, as far as I know, as the electricity is put straight into the grid - sold to the energy companies.

As for the other grips surely they can be easily overcome - non slippery coating - no gaps big enough for anything to fit in and so on. I think it has great potential for any area that gets direct sunlight. Be interesting to see how quickly it will be developed.
