Crossing the Border

Spent a few days in Thailand crossing the Thai/Malaysian border at Changlun and hiring a driver (700Baht) to take us to Hat Yai. Made a big mistake here - Click to see the blog entry

Spent the day in Hat Yai then caught the evening sleeper train to Hua Hin.

Last time I came the sleepers were very 1950s and very tired but they have been upgraded (as has the price). The layout is more or less the same with two beds in each compartment with toilets and a shower at the end of the carriage.

The compartment even has an airline style info screen.

Hua Hin is seaside town a few hours south of Bangkok. The town was the late king's favourite holiday resort. The railway station even has a royal waiting room though it doesn't appear to have been used for a very long time.

I have been to Hua Hin before but the food is terrific worth going for that alone.
