I understood Barnier had completed his role as Chief Negotiator and Martin Selmayr is taking over.
As soon a the vote was announced in parliament last week to change the backstop a pre-prepared statement saying there would be no changes to the agreement was made by the EU, written I believe by Selmayr.
He is a crony of Juncker’s and likely to be an awkward person to deal with ,an article about him from last year ....
The EU ombudsman has given a damning verdict on the way Jean-Claude Juncker's chief of staff was given the top post in the bloc's civil service.

The promotion of Martin Selmayr, nicknamed "the monster" by his boss, was fast-tracked in February, in a move condemned by one Euro MP as a "coup".

Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly identified four counts of maladministration by the European Commission.

She said the affair had damaged public trust in EU institutions.

Ms O'Reilly agreed with the European Parliament's assessment that the promotion had "stretched and possibly even overstretched the limits of the law".

However, her report will not affect his promotion. She calls only for the top job to have an appointment procedure separate from that for other senior posts.

Re: The Malthouse Compromise

A snippet on the news earlier if I understood it correctly, was that David Trimble is taking the EU to court saying that for them to implement any form of backstop arrangement would break the Good Friday Agreement, as it would effectively negate the actions of the Northern Ireland Assembly which is a cornerstone of the agreement.

Interesting times ahead then if correct....

Only posible if they were party to this agreement. You can't break an agreement you are not party to, and have not signed. Is david trimble a politician, by any chance?

Possibly he means if EIRE has any sense and stops to think for a moment ... England is Ireland’s biggest trading partner , England is Ireland’s biggest customer , England is Ireland’s gateway to Europe ... England is England is England is ... then maybe just maybe Southern Ireland should either become part of Northern Ireland or EIRE should quickly have eirexit ! Problem solved and Ireland will be better off in so many ways !
And as already proven in Ireland you simply have a referendum and if the people give the wrong answer you simply keep holding them until they give the right answer !!!

That's about right.

Varadkar & Co will soon spit his dummy out when his unelected EU masters ask him to start paying back all that money he owes them.

That's bullshit.

The English and Irish can and do live in perfect harmony.

It's the terrorists and criminals who want the turmoil the EU is proposing.

Perhaps we should ask Norway and Sweden for some advice.
