Are the French any less French? The Germans any less German? The Spanish any less Spanish? Personally I don’t think so, so why is your Enlishness under threat?

Are the Scots any less Scottish within the UK..............definitely not. Probably moreso.

Born in England, growing up in England and raising my family in England I never once referred to myself as English.

We just got on with life.

One thing I notice about living in Scotland is how obsessed the Scots are with their nationality.......Too much so.
If the Scots just got on with improving their lot in life instead of banging on about their 'Scottishness' I'm convinced they would have a far more successful nation by default.

They just don't seem to get it and bang on about conflicts from over 300 years ago or Thatcher implementing the poll tax up there first, like that justifies their disdain for all things English.

Tbh , I find it amusing, join in the banter, make it clear that I'm English and will not apologise to anyone for that and tbh, they soon get back in their box every time the Scotland rugby /football team embarrasses them again.

just isn’t true. Nothing is more annoying to the other nationalities of the U.K. than the use of England when referring to the U.K. The Union flag is just that, it represents all the nations hence the red, white and blue. The BBC default position appears to assume the audience is English. Of course the British Isles are European, it’s geographical nonsense to say otherwise. As for Mons and Arnhem, many Scots, Irish and Welsh fell there fighting with the British Army.
This is the little Englander stuff that does your proud nation no good.
Hang on a mo! Do the Scottish, when asked their nationality, say "I'm British", Do the Welsh say "I'm British", Do the Irish say "I'm British" ? Like hell they do! You are all proud to say you are Scottish, Welsh or Irish, rightly so, So why are we accused by you of acting liked little Englanders for wanting to be English?? Why are you insistent that we, in this part of Britain, should not have the same pride as you in being English? Your comments about being little Englanders rather smacks of hypocrisy.

Oh, and for the record, I will NEVER refer to myself as a European, that starts and ends at France as far as I'm concerned. I happen to be English, live in the UK. and very proud of it.

Re: Good Ol' England

Just like Wales and Scotland, England is commonly referred to as a country but it is not a sovereign state. It is the largest country within the United Kingdom both by landmass and population, has taken a pivitol role in the creation of the UK, and its capital London also happens to be the capital of the UK.
It is perhaps understandable then that England is often (although incorrectly) used as a term to describe the whole of the UK.
So there you have it! If you’re still a bit confused over the differences, here’s a quick summary:
The UK – a sovereign state that includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Great Britain – an island situated off the north west coast of Europe.
British Isles – a collection of over 6,000 islands, of which Great Britain is the largest.
England – a country within the UK.

the england that we all grew up in has had a chequered complex development : try telling all of this to a foreigner wherever they may have come from!

Yeah! Exactly! Al us non-English ask for is acknowledgment and respect. Could ask how we can have an equal union when one country is so much bigger than the rest put together but weve been there and it belongs to another thread. Anyway, good morning from a sunny Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
