The thing is I'm not sure all American food will be labelled properly so we won't know.

You wouldn't think so. A lot of products are labelled as `produced in the EU` - no country of origin.

Yep - you can find out from the barcode the country of origin, the first 2 digits of an EAN13 tell you the country. 50 is UK and 30 is France etc.

I must remember to check all those while I make my way round Lidl. Good for an extra hour of shopping.
