So here we are....

..... Nine days later and everything has settled down, just like a member prophesied some days ago.
Money and stocks and shares all back to normal, new PM in the offing, world's trading nations queuing up to strike deals with us.
In the words of a famous P M from yesteryear....."Crisis ? What crisis" ?

......Even the hole in the Ozone Layer is beginning to heal.

Re: So here we are....

Change can be scary. Were one to take into account the economic and military strengths of the UK, which shows the UK to be one of the strongest and most stable nations in the EU, an isolated UK would be to the detriment of the economical health and security of eastern Europe. With the scare tactics aside, you are going to see a new world of cooperation and prosperity within the EU. Why do I say this?? The UK was never 100 % into the EU, so the transition is going to be relatively inexpensive as far as adapting a new currency, the UK never relinquished the GBP, this being one of the reasons stated for the reluctance of Germany's leaving. Sweden and Denmark also have not altered their original currencies, thus also having no such conversion, added to the prospects of new market opportunities available to be negotiated free of the EU, as well new treaties with old markets, well, lets say it can lead to a more prosperous future. The EU seeing the success of the UK along with the possible defection of other members, will be encouraged to negotiate change of policies with remaining members to head off mass exodus.

You clearly haven't been following the movement of sterling, which is significantly down in value. For some of us that means less pension.
It's early days yet.

Neither have you .... I monitor the exchange rate on a daily basis and am familiar with its ups and downs, it is not Significantly down in value at all, very slightly down against the dollar but nothing new about that !

Re: So here we are....

I know change is scary but the British people had had enough of being bullied thank god and gave their verdict.

I was this evening looking through our local freebie weekly newspaper and came across a reader's letter on the Letter page. I was quite shocked but not really surprised to read this, One more reason to be truly thankful we have regained our democracy here in the UK.

QUOTE

THE PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR RIGHT TO GRUMBLE ABOUT THIS UNION.

It has long been the right of every free-born British person to grumble about our leaders and rulers, our managers and others "in authority over us". we call it "freedom of speech".

On May 6th the European Union removed that right!.
although few would know if from the silence observed by much of the media.

The European Court of Justice ruled that the right to complain about, or otherwise point out, the failings or wrongdoings of the EU Commission is illegal and gave the commission the right legally to punish "individuals who damage the institution's image and reputation".

Interestingly, in the light of Boris Johnson's remarks about the EU, historically almost the same words were used in the Enabling Act of 1933 which allowed the German government to "abolish civil liberties" including rights of free speech. which were not restored in that country until the year 1945.

UNQUOTE

The mind boggles at what they will be allowed to get away with- with no-one allowed to speak a word of dissent.

Thank god we are out of it !!

Unbelievable.

Well the remaining members of the EU might be gagged, but we still have the right to say what we think.

This should be publicised as widely as possible including, of course, across Europe, and I hope that all of those know-it-all young people who are bleating about the result of the referendum will realise how wrong they have been.

I can imagine that if and when the remaining people of the EU get to know about it, it is likely to encourage other countries to follow our example and vote to leave.

Re: So here we are....

Hi

I am somewhat closer to this than many of you.

Yes we do have a problem with uncontrolled Immigration.

However it is our fault, we have not been training our youngsters.

It is not our youngsters fault, it is ours.

We have not valued our apprentices enough, we have not trained enough engineers, people like OGF, we have not valued them enough.

I find it offensive that our Nursing Courses are over subscribed and yet we are now offering cash Bonuses for Foreign Nurses to come here.

I also find it even more offensive that we are now charging our own youngsters to become nurses, when previously we were not.

The same applies to engineers and other specialists.

Look after our own youngsters, give them the proper training and proper jobs.

We have not done that, we should have done.

My job is to do the best for the UK, which I have tried to do, in all sorts of ways.

We haven't done that, we have serious skills shortages, particularly in the Engineering and Agricultural Sectors.

Which is why I now find myself on Polish Radio this weekend, reassuring them that we do need their qualified people to stay here and still keep coming.

Jobs which could have gone to British Kids if we had trained them.
