Re: What Is May Playing At?

I haven't weighed Theresa May up yet at all. She seems like a female version of John Major to me, rather uninteresting to say the least.

Yes on the face of it it looks like a good idea....but is it?.

This has to be thought threw at a greater depth than a newspaper headlines.

Or a discredited Politician try to remake a name for himself.

It is arrogance like this which was the one of the three reasons I voted to leave.
He sounds just the sort of chap who needs to be ignored. I hope that May & Co. can manage to do that.

As I've said before, we don't need them. They need us.

I would have thought more of an 'iron lady' waiting in the wings?

Good, but I hope they've got some good trade deals in the bag already.

Hi

There is absolutely no chance of that JBR.

May has got to deliver, but she is in a bad place, she is having to start from scratch, there was absolutely nothing in place, Cameron was convinced Remain would win.

The Brexit Leaders had nothing in place either and also had differing views on what they wanted.

The worst thing that we could do is to leave without anything in place, that would cost us far more than our Membership Fees.

At the moment we have the best of things, a significant devaluation of the £ and access to the single market, things will change when we leave.

The extent of what we need to do is explained here

https://www.theguardian.com/business...g-back-control

It is not an insoluble problem by any means, but it will take time and the timetable is not ours to dictate, a lot will depend on other Countries who may well have different priorities.

Re: What Is May Playing At?

Australian Trade Secretary Steven Ciobo who is on a visit to London and was on the Today programme sounded very optimistic about making a trade deal with the UK.

Ok nothing can be done formally until we have left the EU, but that doesn't prevent informal negotiations going on behind the scenes.
The UK is to begin preliminary talks with Australia about the outline of a future free trade deal between them.
Officials will meet twice a year to discuss the parameters of what both sides said they hoped would be an "ambitious and comprehensive" deal.
Australia has been earmarked by the UK as its first post-Brexit trade partner.

Any wine drinkers on here, one of the benefits could be cheaper Australian wine
Mr Ceibo even offered to loan us some trade negotiators.

I believe there are lots of informal negotiations going on with various countries behind the scenes.
Once we know what is on offer from elsewhere we will have a better idea of what we do or don't need from any EU deal.

ETA It seems a negative spin by some is being put on the fact that Mr Ceibo said a deal could be 2.5 years away.

If it takes 2 years to leave the EU and no deal can be finalised until we do that sounds logical to me.

Really? According to a number of news sources, several non-EU countries, including Australia as Meg said above, are even now making overtures and the outcome will undoubtedly be many prosperous trade deals.

Of course, we cannot officially sign such deals until we leave the EU. I would but, of course, our politicians must always appear to be following 'the rules'.
