But that's like saying Susan can't post anywhere at all? Sub-forums are the forums within the main forums are they not?

It depends which sub forum Susan wanted to post in. Some you have to be a member for three months before you can have access to it.

why can't you post for 3 months in some? That seems like an odd rule if you can access the rest of the forums straight away??

You ARE a member Susan, but a newer member, not a long term one just yet.
There is a rule about being a member for 3 months before we can use the PM system.
