FCO, not fit for purpose?

I have watched with incredulity the way the Foreign and Common wealth Office has stumbled through the Libya crisis.

Now as I understand it the FCO recruits from the cream of the graduate crop from Oxbridge and other good universities. I would therefore expect intelligence being applied and much intellectual thought being put into, plans.

I see the dithering over the no fly zone and what if any action to take and I think they must be joking!
Then the ill prepared "Diplomatic" group was detained by the rebels after landing in Benghazi and I could only think "Sheesh, which bunch of morons planned this?"
We need to forget playing on the World stage.

You are incorrect with your assumption about FCO Recruiting Gog.
High-flyers perhaps but the rank and file are from all walks of life. I know. I worked for them.
Political ineptude, interference and a lack of experience by these same politicians severely hampers the professionals doing this work at the FCO. stevmk2
