Not because I or the other person did any wrong
But to reveal it now might hurt others and that isn t worth it.

Yes.

Once someone confides in me, that's it. It goes no further.

Years ago I had a boyfriend break up with me because I would not let him in on something extremely personal about a mutual friend. He said that I didn't trust him. I realized that his response was a sign that he didn't respect me. It was a good parting!

Yes, I do have one.

I did nothing wrong, in fact I was the innocent party.

The truth would be absolutely devastating for the person involved, better just to take the flak and take it to my grave.

Yes - I have a few - mostly other people's. My friends tend to confide in me because they know I will not pass it on.

If I had a secret I certainly wouldn't mention it to anyone. Once you let people know that you are keeping a secret they can't resist trying to encourage you to tell them and, if you don't, they start guessing... and that is how nasty rumours start.
Human beings are usually just nosy, so I would keep it to myself.
