Here We Go Again.

She never learns, does she?
Apparently, a furious row erupted last night over who should negotiate with Brussels over changes to the Northern Ireland backstop.

Brexiteers received assurances from Downing Street before Tuesday's vote, that two seasoned trade negotiators would be brought in to bolster the UK’s team in Brussels.
Gavin Barwell, told members of the ERG ahead of Tuesday’s vote, that Julian Braithwaite, the UK’s Permanent Representative to the UN and WTO in Geneva, and Crawford Falconer, a seasoned trade negotiator based in the International Trade Department, would be part of Theresa May’s team when she returns to Brussels next week.

But, after being informed that Mr. Falconer would be installed, and backing her on Tuesday, they have now been informed by Theresa May’s spokesman - “The Civil Service team, led by Olly Robbins, remains the same”.

ERG deputy Chairman Steve Baker said “My experience in Government tells me that our chief trade negotiation adviser, Crawford Falconer, has been cut out of our chief trade negotiation. And that is a really stupid mistake.

Lead negotiator Olly Robbins has drawn the ire of many Brexiteers over his handling of the negotiations so far. After Theresa May received the backing of her Government on Tuesday, he was quoted as saying “Going back to Brussels is a complete waste of time!”.

And this is the Remain supporting moron taking charge of our negotiations!!

Looks as though Theresa May is once again attempting to be too clever for her own good. She will learn to her cost if she continues to try to shaft Brexiteers as we draw ever closer to the line. Just think back to Chequers to see where that arrogance, planned with Olly Robbins, landed her!

Do you agree? Shouldn’t we have the best, seasoned trade negotiators at her side when facing those bullies in Brussels? Not some jumped-up civil servant who despises Brexit.

Re: Here We Go Again.

Hi

Spot on SG.

Mrs May surrounds herself with people who tell her she is the best thing since sliced bread.

Any dissent and you are sidelined, the ultimate control freak.

Her deal with the EU is what she is determined to get through, even though it has been heavily voted down by both sides.

Brexit is going to be much worse than it could have been.

Re: Here We Go Again.

Olly Robbins is part of the problem but he's right in saying that going back to Brussels is a waste of time. They've no intention of renegotiating any deal that had been agreed especially the backstop which is an attempt to keep the UK in the customs union.

Some major Dutch businesses who export billions of their products to the UK have suggested the use of `Green Lanes` to expedite exports by certifying goods at the point of distribution. This they say, will prevent massive queues of lorries both in Europe and the UK, a good solution IMO. The idea has been rejected by both the EU and the UK.

Olly Robbins need a boot up the behind
He used to be Blair's PPS and once ran a pro-federal Europe group called the Oxford Reform Club . I wonder where his loyalties really lie.

Robbins is referred to as Rasputin by some Tory MPs who dislike him intensely.

Re: Here We Go Again.

With May in the lead it doesn't matter how good a negotiator accompanies her. She acts as she sees fit, irrespective of what her negotiators advise. The other thing is, the EU's position is determined by May's red lines. If there is no movement in these lines, the deal on offer remains the same, and there will be no negotiations. So far May has been like a block of concrete in movability.
As for loyalty, robinson is loyal to the UK only. He tries to negotiate the deal best for the UK. In the mean time his personal opinion can be that the best position for the UK is within the EU. As long as his personal opinion doesn't keep him from doing the best he can, he is loyal.
And as for braithwait and falconer, good negotiators in their own right they may be, what are their personal opnions on brexit? Do you know?

As I said, the blaming game is beginning.
Who is defending a hopeless deal fanatically?

Re: Here We Go Again.

Every word Nigel says in his speech yesterdays is the truth. The EU are acting disgracefully, more like a bunch of school kids rather than so-called Leaders. Who knows how the new negotiations will go but it would surely help if the likes of Tusk, Juncker and Barnier made a start and took the dummies out of their mouths.
