Holiday in Paris
Lucky bastard! my youngest son has just arrived in Paris.Royal Australian Navy sailors from the Australian Defence Force contingent rehearse at the Lycée Militaire de Saint-Cyr on 7 July 2016 in preparation for the French National Day Parade in Paris later in the month.

Not so long ago he was off Christmas Island defending Australia against unarmed boat people, he carried a 9mm Glock, capsicum spray, a baton and a lot of training in crowd control. never used any of it.
He is the RAN sailor on the left.

It's a tale of two extremes really. This boy does well at everything he tries he was selected to form part of this detail out of god knows how many applicants.My middle son, also in the navy, has been to the Gulf on active service but is now stationed in Canberra in Border Security. He was recently busted down to seaman for 6 months for some misdemeanour but can't wait to get back to sea in 2018. The irony is that he loves being in the Navy whereas my youngest son is very ambivalent about it.
The pay they get is ridiculous I remember my father and grandfather complaining about the money the American military got but it appears that even in the first world war Australian troops were paid more than the yanks. It is actually quite hard to get into the Australian military they are very picky but once you are in they look after you very well.
