More evidence?

Two news items caught my eye tonight!
The first involves wild life and elephants in particular!
The Botswana government has just announced it has removed
the ban on elephant hunting which has been in force for the
last l think 8yrs! They are going to allow trophy hunting again
in an effort to reduce elephant numbers to allay friction
between growing human population and the 130,000 elephants
that live in the countryl
The second was a report that the ozone layer has developed
a new hole in it, situated over China, which is believed to be
caused by the manufacture of and use of cladding and other
insulation products!
Seems whatever we do we are so clever we are doomed to
stuff everything up?

Re: More evidence?

How about we save the elephants and reduce the human population? Education, birth control, shifts in cultural/religious norms seem like a much better option.

Hi

We are idiots.

I live in Shrewsbury, where Charles Darwin was born.

His house is still here, untouched.

He was so right.

Do you think we can alter the female of the species
basic drive to give birth SM! I think it has happened to
a certain extent in affluent societies, but where poverty
exists high birth rates are rife!l think your better option is
the right way to go, but do we have the time for this?

The problem with reports about the Ozone layer is we can neither prove nor disprove the report....And if it's true, how long have we been monitoring the Ozone Layer?
Could it be natural phenomenon?
There are reports suggesting that the hole above the Antarctic have actually receded....

Don't you find it just a little strange that it just happens to be China where the hole has appeared, and it was probably discovered by NASA.....

Re: More evidence?

Regarding the elephants, they are only rampaging through places they wouldn't normally, because their own habitat is being so rapidly destroyed in the first place.

Money, money, money, so many things are all about money, and lining certain people's pockets. Trophy hunting brings in a lot of money - from the rich to the richer.

I hope they get their come-uppence in the next life.

Poor Elephants...I read a book recently about how they grieve when a member of their herd dies....crying real tears and guarding the dead body for days...

We are such a cruel species.what gives us the right to inflict such horror on them.... I'm all for reducing the human population. As I said in another thread average birth rate per woman in the UK 1.8 and in Nigeria 7.8.....ridiculous.

Because we send them too much aid Summer, it's counter productive, or should I say 'Very Productive'....

More aid = More kids....

Have to disagree for change there OGF, the drive to reproduce
is a basic instinct present throughout the animal kingdom!
And they tend to produce more when living conditions get
more difficult in order to counter the higher death rate due
to the harsher living conditions! This tendency is not a
consious thing but is an automatic reaction driven by the
survival instinct! Therefore if the aid we send did actually get
to the masses it should have a tendancy to cause the birth
rate to drop, NOT rise!
However, l fully agree on the need to SLOWLY reduce the
world populations by some means or other!

Best Regards Donkeyman!
