Re: IIhan Omar
Let's get things straight. According to reports Ilhan has criticised Saudi Arabia over their human rights abuses - something I recall quite a few here also feel strongly about. It is reported that she has also spoken against the Assad regime. She has condemned the Sri Lanka bombings.
She is for a two state solution in Israel and is against the building of settlements in occupied territories. I'm not sure why either of those views should be deemed anti-semitic. These are political issues and opposing views on these issues frequently tear up this forum, but that should not make one side pro-semitic and the other anti-semitic.
So she has strong opinions and she is not afraid to state them and to restate them. She has been accused of anti-semiitism as a result of some of the analogies she has applied in her criticism of Israel. She has said that the statements were not made in an anti semitic context. She has had both condemnation and support from different factions of the US Jewish community.
She is pro-LGBT rights. She wants to ban gay conversion therapy.
She appears to be against all US meddling in other countries.
So she is a controversial figure but has both strong condemnation and strong support from different groups.
POTUS has certainly picked an interesting fight.
