I'd say early to have young about, but it has been very mild this Winter so far.

Yep, me too.

Saw one the other day with the parents on a lake not far away and was very surprised but it may be the unseasonal weather?

Had a laugh at some of the suggestions, but it is an intriguing bird Alan, so im going to do a bit of research, if it is something unusual i will get back to you.
