Re: A second wave in the making?

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews says the state will press on with its plans to further ease coronavirus restrictions next week, despite an apparent increase in community transmission of COVID-19.

The state has recorded a further 18 new cases, including a third Black Lives Matter protester and a "very young child" who attended a childcare centre while infectious.

Bruce those VICS are letting down the country. One Covid outbreak after another while the rest of us are almost virus free. I have to take issue with the South Aussie Premier not adding us New Southers to their travel bubble now borders have opened.. Gladys is spitting chips over it.

To be fair 15 of the recent cases in Victoria are returning residents in quarentine.

Re: A second wave in the making?

We can't force people to obey the government and scientific advice indefinitely neither can we imprison thousands of 'offenders'. The best we could ever hope for with a disease like C19 once it has infiltrated the world population and become endemic is to suppress it sufficiently so we do not become overwhelmed until vaccination or some medical solution is found.

C19 has been suppressed to some extent for now , rather than 'second waves' my guess is it will keep simmering away at low levels with numerous outbreaks as circumstances allow.

We can only hope that a level of immunity is acquired by the world population in time to help protect the majority (herd immunity) if a vaccine isn't found.

Maybe C19 will act as prompt to start taking the prospect of the newly emerged/ emerging virus causing a pandemic more seriously and make preparation worldwide including funding the development of suitable vaccines as early as possible.
Thank goodness C19 wasn't Nipah virus which has a 70% mortality rate and which can be transmitted from animal to human and in contaminated food. So far the virus has been contained to Asia but we now know what can happen when we aren't prepared.

Re: A second wave in the making?

I think that there is a fine line between those desperate to get people back to work, to get the money flowing in again, and those who think that staying alive is more important.

I can't see them, ever, coming up with a perfect solution.

It's a lose lose situation.

Can't blame the Government, as these virus situations can be beyond any training, and prep, that you might have had.

Can't blame the public, sometimes being locked in, for a very long period, is a horrendous nightmare.

The Media, in my view, is not helping at all!

Yep, that sort of explains it.
