Re: road charge

We do not pay a road tax, instead we pay a vehicle excise duty that goes straight into general taxation.

Personally I would be in favour of a road charge based on mileage and on road load including time of use. The technology to achieve this already exists in a number of forms.

Re: road charge

I have a far better idea on how the government can claw back what they have spent.
Cut MP''s salary to a quarter of what they get now. Cut out all their " perks" and the claw back will only take a year

4= Cars under 3 years old need no MOT so how is that going to work?

AH I have the solution on how they are going to do it.

We all are going to have to have a government official in our car every time we use it to see how many miles we do. Brilliant government thinking
No technology needed to measure the miles travelled RS, every
car can is limited on the miles it travells by MPG ?
Easy to add 15% or whatever to the fuel price !!
If you want to travel, you have to pay !!
The infrastructure allready exists to do this .

What about in an emergency getting to hospital for example. would you charge to save a persons life?

I did some years ago the Dr's told me if I had taken another 5 minutes he would have died.

#1 a taxi is a form of public transport. Really.

#2 the class of road would / could vary the charge per km
the technology already exists.

I have thought about my comments and there now is no alternative other than going down this route (no pun intended)

Every private car km saved needs to be grasped and in any cases the present taxation method is out of date.

Of course it will affect people but it's a changing world.

Road tax? Excise duty?
just a play on words Todgy !!
The result is the same
BTW originally it was a dedicated fund for the upkeep of the roads,
Thats why it was called THE ROAD "FUND" LICENCE ??
Like all large accumulations of money they attracted the attention
of succesive chancellors and were stolen or diverted from their
real purpose !!
