But, what if you weighed them on their journey from your hostas to some lettuces, would they lose weight on the way?

Why isn't the chicken the biggest and most powerful things in the animal kingdom? Instead, it's one of the most timid, drama queens of a bird there is.
Think about it - they are almost 100% protein except for the feathers and beak. It should be as strong as an ox!

Yes, because they are using energy in order to move, but you'd need a very, very sensitive set of scales, as it would be a minuscule amount.
