Re: Backhanders from the EU

So the EU does accept that there is rampant corruption within the EU, why else would they support a company supposedly to combat it....

If you were trying to sell the EU on the open market I don't think there would be anyone who wouldn't walk away. What a con!

Such a needless waste of money when we are supposed to have a government who should be able to take care of the UK's needs nationally, and far cheaper....

The UK supports the independent organisation because they are unable to tackle corruption in their own institutions.

In 2014 the EU published a report on corruption in the EU. On the UK only a few minor recommendations:

The following points require further attention:
 Taking further preventive measures to effectively address risks of foreign bribery and
providing sector-specific guidelines to companies in areas which may be at increased risk,
such as defence. Ensuring transparent and dissuasive sanctions in out-of-court settlements.
 Further strengthening accountability in the governance of banks, including stricter
enforcement and ensuring that the beneficial owners of UK-registered companies are
declared.
 Capping donations to political parties, imposing limits on electoral campaign spending
and ensuring proactive monitoring and prosecution of potential violations. Considering
lower thresholds for the reporting of financial holdings and for the registration of received
gifts, and providing clear guidance on acceptable gifts for Members of Parliament.
Addressing issues identified by the Leveson Inquiry regarding the legitimate interaction
between the press and the police, such as time limits on the employment of former police
officers by the media.
