You called

Yes, it's a maiden, my mother had a wooden maiden, mine is plastic-coated but it's still a maiden.

Re: Hands Up...Who Dries Stuff On Their Radiators?

It's rare I dry stuff on radiators...I hate mess and clutter so having stuff draped all over the place would just irritate me. I remember clothes horses as a kid though....they were good for making tents....

Re: Hands Up...Who Dries Stuff On Their Radiators?

Seems there are many names for them, thank you Wiki:-

A clothes horse, sometimes called a clothes rack, drying horse, clothes maiden, garment donkey, drying rack, drying stand, Frostick, airer, or (Scots) winterdyke, is a frame upon which clothes are hung after washing, indoors or outdoors, to dry by evaporation. The frame is usually made of wood, metal or plastic. It is a cheap low-tech piece of laundry equipment, as opposed to a clothes dryer, which necessitates electricity.
I would love to have one of the pulley ones - but my ceilings are too low.

Hi

I do air things on the bedroom radiator if I know I will be up early on a frosty morning.

Leila, Thanks for that! I knew some people referred to a clothes horse as a ‘maiden’.

I've never heard it called that before, it's always just been The Clothes Horse. How did it come to be renamed a Maiden.

Roxy, l don’t know but l suppose it is regional? Maybe, we need to go back to the audience to ask why?

I’m still in shock at a clothes horse being called, a winterdyke!
