9/11 Anniversary

Today is the 18th anniversary of the Trade Centre and Pentagon attacks in America, where services are now taking place.

RIP to the 2977 innocents that died that day.

The horrific pictures of that fateful day still make it seem like yesterday.

I agree. Dreadful event. Shocking number of fatalities and causalities.

We had been married almost a year, actually within just a few days of our first anniversary. My dear wife is an American, not from NYC, but she had friends visiting there at the time. Understandably, she was very upset.

I suppose one of the positives, if you can call it that, is that airport and aeroplane security was tightened up.

That was a dreadful day for all involved. I was watching CNN at the time & couldn't believe it was live, it looked like a film drama. It doesn't seem like 18 years ago.

Re: 9/11 Anniversary

Thoughts and prayers go out today for the friends and families of the many people who lost their lives this nightmarish day 9/11. I remember crying as I watched the horror unfold right before my eyes on TV. Also thinking of all of you my friends who will too be feeling just as I am feeling today as we are reminded of this horrible catastrophe. (hugs) xxxxx

Remembering 9/11

As they went about their business
Just like any normal day
No-one could have envisaged
In the towers, bodies would lay

One moment they were chatting
The next, so many had died
People running and screaming
Looking for a place to hide

We watched the horror unfold
With unpredicted shock
Planes mercilessly flying in
To one, then a second block

We saw the raging fires
From the windows of the towers
Every single second
Must have felt like hours

Evil was at work that day
Many innocent lives now gone
The families left behind
Have had to somehow carry on

The evil deed of 9/11
Is etched in the minds of all
With us forever, still seemingly unreal
That day we saw Twin Towers fall.

Let us always hope and pray
For an end to all the madness
Thoughts and prayers go out today
As we’re united in heartfelt sadness

Re: 9/11 Anniversary

I knew it was the anniversary today but had no idea it was a much as eighteen years ago. How time flies, for us anyway but not for those who lost loved ones. I remember thinking on that day that the World would never be the same again and I suppose that I was right.

RIP to those who were murdered and condolences to the people of NYC.

Re: 9/11 Anniversary

I was reading extracts from those who were there, in my paper today. It was so harrowing. The bit that made my heart lurch was the one extract from a fire chief who had to warn those on the ground to watch out for ''jumpers''. He said there were people on the ledges making a daisy chain and jumping together. One fireman was killed when he was hit by a falling person. He was the first fireman to die that day.

One can only imagine the horror, shock and utter devastating heartbreak of those thousands of families of loved ones lost in the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and the Planes.

It really was the bravest of the brave in America.
