Can we have some then ? We are on NMW and don't qualify for anything but child benefit which is not spent on us but on our child.

People will be means tested and the "Benefits" paid according to their needs. Not their wants but their NEEDS though far too often their wants are also taken into account.

There is no money for holidays and new clothes either.
One one should be enjoying the later years of life they have to skimp and eat Scrag end of Mutton instead of Fillet Steak like the overfed MP's do.
Also go to bed with their clothes to keep warm to save electricity. Shameful when the Government is happy to spend £billions on Foreign Aid, much of it wasted and going to the wrong people
Other Countries are far more generous to their Senior Citizens and treat them with the respect that they deserve.
For those reasons alone I have signed and passed it onwards to others either retired or will be in the next 20yrs as they too will be interested.

First of all we should stop all foreign aid, they don't need it we do. Other countries should sort out their own problems and affairs we had to in past history

And deport any and all immigrants who are in the UK but not working in a permanent job along with their families after three months max

As for paying "Benefits" to overseas dependants, that's just obscene.

Indeed but means testing is flawed in many cases imo as if you are willing to work many more hours than healthy you get nothing whereas only work 16 hours a week opens a world of money being given to help you have same standard of living as that person doing 60-70 hours a week. Makes it hard to feel things are fair.

It also might help if the Australian system of benefits was adopted in this country, that would stop benefits being paid to those who deliberately come to the UK 'for a free ride' not having contributed in any way.

"New residents become eligible to claim unemployment benefits only when they have been resident in the country for a total of 104 weeks."

What we should stop is in work benefits because that would force employers to pay more realistic wages. Along with adopting Australian system too

Re: Petition for a more realistic pension

I've just had to apply for my State Pension, when I worked out what I would get I was quite pleased, I've never had so much money! Looking forwards to the heating allowance, being able to keep warm for a change without worrying!
Shame I had to wait an extra 5 years and 7 months for it though! I think my health would not have suffered so much.

That’s good news Tess, I hope this will now make life a bit easier for you.
