Re: easter weekend full moon
[QUOTE=susan m;635300]Maiden castle fort in Dorset makes a wonderful walk but even better at night. Three of us trecked up at 8pm, torches and candles, flasks of hot chocolate and coffee. Settled ourselfs for a beautiful full moon evening. The sun set , it's glowing orange and golden colors , then out came the beautiful golden full moon, the evening was still , the skylarks played and the owls hooted . We sat like hares , moongazing in awe. The stars clear and the sky bright. At 11pm it was time to treck down, exhilarated with being at one for a while with our beautiful world .
What an absolutely brilliant thing to do Susan, you never forget days [or nights in your case] like that. Reading your account, I was there with you. It's certainly given me food for thought. I used to do a 24 hour fell running event every year around Buxton, the last six miles would always be in the dark, it took us over Shining Torr, a featureless piece of boggy waterfilled moor overlooking Manchester. Absolutely pitch black, and with just torches we would stagger and squelch our way across. The views over Manchester and the surrounding countryside were breathtaking, and on the clear nights, all the stars could be seen brighter than I'd ever seen them before. Truly magical. Worth loosing a bit of time for to stop and stare.
Some of the detail concerning those events has been long since forgotten over the years, but not those on Shining Torr....
