Winds

I may have asked this before - if so, I apologise because I cannot remember the answer.

Is a West (or whatever) wind coming from or going to the West ?

Re: Winds

ST the west wind comes from the west as spoken of in Masefield's poem ...

IT'S a warm wind, the west wind, full of birds' cries;
I never hear the west wind but tears are in my eyes.
For it comes from the west lands, the old brown hills.
And April's in the west wind, and daffodils.
Masefield came from Ledbury in Herefordshire near here and when I stand on the Malvern Hills looking west to the Black Mountains with a west wind blowing I know why he had tears in his eyes...

A weather vane!
I was thinking that. But then I couldn't remember if the cockerel is facing towards or away from the direction of the wind!

Re: Winds

According to the great God Wikipedia the cockerel and the arrow point to the source of the wind.
So...if it's pointing -------> N it's a northerly wind
