British aircraft banned from flying over Ireland

Dublin threatens to BLOCK British planes from flying over its airspace if May does not meet EU's Brexit demands!

I wonder what they are hoping to do to prevent us doing so.

Even if we respect their demands, what would they do if we impose similar demands on them.

Look at a map of Europe.

The territory of Eire is not extensive and, if necessary, we could easily bypass their country if flying to the US or Canada. A great circle flight there would head to the north of Ireland.

Conversely, our territory extends over 500 miles in a north-south direction. If the Irish want to fly to Europe, they'd have to go to great expense and incur time penalties to fly around our territory.

Without wishing to offend anyone personally, making jokes about the Irish is a long established practice in this country. This latest bright idea is only going to encourage more humour at their expense.

He also pointed out that a key part of the airspace to the west of Ireland is controlled by the UK - again proving his threat toothless.
Rhetoric, just rhetoric.

That's what I said!

I'm not even sure that Eire even possesses fighter-interceptors.

Perhaps the Taoiseach is thinking of becoming a comedian.

Unfortunately our current Taoiseach is only one brain cell ahead of Trump.

We do have an 'air force' but am not sure what they fly, apart from Helicopters.
