Havant or Portsmouth knowledge

Hubby is dropping the dog off this Wednesday in Havant as she is having her eye op and to save him driving all the way back home he will be hanging around Havant/Portsmouth from about 8.30 am to 4.00 pm when he will be picking her up.

Does anyone know these two places really well to tell us what there is to do in either of these two places. I wont be going, just hubby.

Any ideas very welcomed

Just to add, he doesn't want to bother looking around the Dockyard Harbour looking at The Victory etc.

If you are not into the Dockyard, there isn't really much to do other than shopping. Getting in and out of Portsmouth can be a real pain if you time it wrong.

I can suggest the Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quays, which is right next to Portsmouth Harbour Railway Station. The Tower is situated in the middle of an outlet shopping center. There is Southsea seafront, which is a beach and some amusement arcade. The Royal Marines museum and Sealife center.

Re: Havant or Portsmouth knowledge

Thanks for that info Graham, I have passed it onto hubby. I see you live in Gosport so you're very familiar with those areas.

Portsmouth and Havant are about two hours away from where we live so it's not worth him coming home plus if he gets a bad hold up on the motorways going to pick the dog up he may not get there in time and the place will close.

Is there anything much in Havant do you know? The eye specialist is actually in Havant.

Havant is a small town which has the Merdian Shopping Center in it. That's basically it for Havant. The only other interest I could suggest is the Roman Palace which is in Fishbourne on the way to Chichester, Portchester Castle Ruins or the Armerment Museum which on top of Portsdown Hill.

Re: Havant or Portsmouth knowledge

Me and Mrs. Grumble lived and worked there most of our lives...
Well, Havant hasn't got a lot - the usual shopping centre etc... It does however have a small museum that (when I last saw it) housed a very comprehensive collection of firearms. For food & drink, I suggest either 'The Robin Hood' or 'The old house at home' - both near the church in the town centre.

If you don't want to go to Pompey, a couple of miles in the other direction
is Emsworth. An interesting village and nice for a stroll round the 'Slipper Mill' pond. A few nice pubs too. Further out you'll find the Fishbourne Roman palace with its rare floor mosaics.

Personally, if they were open, I'd visit the forts on Portsdown hill, though I'm not sure about public transport if you don't have a car..

Re: Havant or Portsmouth knowledge

Thanks Grumblewagon, a lovely lot of information for him there, thank you so much He has taken note of all that you have mentioned and all that everyone else has mentioned and he will have an idea of what to see and do. He quite fancy's visiting the Portsdown Hill area if it's open.

Thanks to you all. It's a lovely part of the country, I went with hubby (before my op) to take the dog down there just for them to look at her and then we brought her back.

There aren't many canine eye specialists around, just in Havant and there is one in Abingdon which isnt that far from us but our dog insurance company doesn't support that one unfortunately as it would be alot nearer.
