I wouldn't call it a thesis. He can't even get his facts right. Thatcher took us into the ERM in 1990. Not a wise move. Why she did this I don't know. But all roads in this debate lead to Thatcher.

So does anyone know what Thatcher did for the fishing industry?

Yes, reading more than 20 sentences is difficult. To make it easier, this is an answer to AnnieS question:
Margaret Thatcher’s government did force concessions. When the common fisheries policy was finalised in January 1983, it was agreed that the pool of fish available in each sea area – the total allowable catch (TAC) – would be split into national quotas based on actual fishing records from the 1970s. Britain successfully insisted that its own quotas must be boosted to take account of its “lost” fishing opportunities off Iceland.

Hi

The UK Government did not include it's inshore fishery vessels, the only EU Country not to do so.

The UK Government, in accordance with it's Free Trade Policies then allowed it's National Quotas to be sold to foreign Companies.

Again, it was the only EU Country to do so, it was not forced to do so.

So we aren't really in a position to complain that this is the EU's fault then?

Hi

Many things are the result of the way the UK Government has acted in responding to EU Directives, they are not the direct result of EU Directives, other Countries have not suffered to the same extent as the UK has.

Aluminium for example, our electricity costs are 8% higher than Germany due to the way we privatised our Electricity providers.

Electricity is the biggest single cost in producing Aluminium so off course we lost the industry.

Germany, France etc did not privatise everything in sight and then allow foreign companies to buy them and move production abroad.

They did privatise, but kept control by using their Pension Schemes to buy shares and then restricted sales to Foreign Companies.

They kept control of their strategic industries, we did not.

When the EU was enlarged, no Free Movement for 3 years.

Blair allowed them all in, France and Germany did not.

Our Politicians need to up their game when we leave.

You may be surprised. In 1966 England was fighting to join the EEC. Being in a fighting mood they won in footbal too. If the mood on this forum is anything to go by (it is inner fighting, but nevertheless agression is present) England or Wales or Scotland could win.
There is no UK footbalclub is there?

Re: EU27 Draw Up Tough New Demands to Lock UK Into Joint Fisheries Deal

I made a point the other day, we are a nation of people who don't tend to break rules, so EU says jump and we do. It's a dangerous place for a country like us to be as we don't naturally ignore directives.
