Unbelievable. Who are the clowns that produce this stuff? Surely they should be sacked, they would be in any other environment. Probably on a six figure wage too.

Re: Windows 10 - KB4511555 Cumulative Update Causing Problems

Microsoft's patch to patch Windows Search now must patch in an audio fix, too

https://www.pcworld.com/article/3438...o-fix-too.html

Microsoft’s patch to fix its Windows Search patch will have to be “patched” again, at least before it goes live. Microsoft said it’s reverting changes in its problematic KB4515384 Windows 10 patch to revert changes it made to enable multichannel audio.

Users began complaining that multichannel audio in PC games sounded worse than usual last week. Microsoft has since acknowledged the problem on its known Windows 10 issues page. Microsoft said users have reported audio that sounds “quieter or worse than expected.”

The issue only affects users of the Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903). A patch is expected in late September, Microsoft said.

Microsoft also reported an issue with the Windows Input Method Editor (IME), which can translate keystrokes on an American-style keyboard into foreign languages. In this case, the affected IMEs include the CHS (Chinese Simplified) and CHT (Chinese Traditional) with Changjie/Quick keyboards. In this case, using the keyboards may result in high CPU usage, or the keyboards may simply become unresponsive. The issue affects numerous Windows client versions, including the May 2019 Update and its predecessor, the October 2018 Update.

Last week, Microsoft reported that the KB4515384 patch, which it had issued to deal with an issue of CPU spikes associated with Windows Search in a previous patch (KB4512941), had in fact broken Windows Search. Microsoft is still officially “presently investigating” those problems and has not issued guidance on when an update will be available, the company has said, in an update published Friday night.
Patching a patch to patch the patch is something I only ever did with my 1960's flared jeans .....

Re: Windows 10 - KB4511555 Cumulative Update Causing Problems

Windows has, probably, reached a level of complexity where it becomes almost impossible to test all features, for bugs, before it's updates get shipped out.

At that point the feedback, of issues, from all of the millions of customers, becomes the central way of finding out what's what.

They are helped by the various Insider Groups, etc., and the big users who have IT support groups on the staff.

Still, we are the test animals for all sorts of things, not just software but Medical products, Shampoos, etc etc etc.

KB4522016 (OS Build 18362.357)
Release date: September 23, 2019

This security update fixes a zero-day vulnerability in Internet Explorer, a Scripting Engine Memory Corruption Vulnerability that could allow someone to introduce malicious code into a browser. For details, see Microsoft’s security vulnerability information.

There are two known issues in this update, one in which the audio for certain games is quieter or different than expected, and another in which the Input Method Editor (IME) may become unresponsive or may have high CPU usage.
Windows 10 Search Issues: Microsoft Labels It Resolved Without Issuing Fix

by Nathaniel Mott September 23, 2019 at 9:24 AM

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/wi...ved,40459.html

A quick refresher: Microsoft released the KB4512941 cumulative update on August 30. It was an optional update, but those who decided to install it reported high CPU usage problems that consumed a lot of their processor's capabilities, with some reporting that SearchUI.exe was using up to 40% of their CPU. KB4515384 was supposed to fix that but also reportedly caused issues with Windows Desktop Search, the Start menu, Action Center and more.

There are more than 825 million PCs running Windows 10 in a given month; the vast majority of them won't encounter any problems.

Microsoft appears to think the problem is overblown. On Thursday, it said it "has not found a Search or Start issue significantly impacting users originating from KB4515384." So it marked the problem as resolved in Windows 10's issue tracking dashboard. But that doesn't help the people who have issues with the update.
Will I, won't I ..... try the updates on my aging laptop first .....

I have updates that will not install...after going through the auto instal the screen says that it has to remove the update as it did not install correctly...I think it is a flash update as my ITVHub catchup does not work...I use Edge and cannot find a way to uninstall flash and re install...
