Tell that to the clowns in Sunderland and other regions that are going to be clobbered with unemployment.

Good luck!

And the people govern, Rich and Poor, through their representative (well, that's how it was meant to be before democracy was kicked in the teeth by the establishment.)

No, "the people" do not govern.

Originally, the King "governed"; parliament evolved ti asist him in this task.

It is HMG - His/Her Majesty's Government. It most definitely is not "the people's" government.

Then the UK is a constitutional monarchy (even without the constitution laid down in one, single, document)?

Re: Betrayal By Our Own MP's!

Yes, a "limited monarch" is the usual phrase.

We are not citizens of a state; we are Subjects of the Crown.

Hence Her Majesty's Government; the King's/ Queens's Highway; the Royal Mail; Dieu et Mon Droit (God and My Right) in the courts; detention at His / Her Majesty's Pleasure (imprisonment); the King's/ Queen's peace, and so on.

"Democracy" was a dirty word until the early 20th century - Karl Marx used the term in the Communist Manifesto (1848) precisely because rule by the people (demos in Greek) was considered highly subversive. And don't even mention extending the franchise to the working-classes and to women!

It's ironical that a lot of pro-Brexit people bang on about "democracy". Most of them would have opposed every extension of that principle, just as their right-wing precursors did.

Can you imagine what a nutter like Jacob Rees-Mogg would have made of the Suffragettes?!

He would have married one, just to prove it's a man's world.

You've got a point there.

I cannot see her majesty organising a referendum to have her subjects advise her on how to rule the country. She may be old, but she is wiser and more knowledgable than any of your mp's.

Re: Betrayal By Our Own MP's!

One thing I admire Jacob Rees Mogg for is if he met a sufferette he would be very very polite to her. I listened to him on James Obriens show and thought if he hadn't been such a gentleman he might have bopped him on the nose he was so rude.
