Re: Surgery and Appointments

Hospital appointments see below ...

What should you do if you have hospital and GP appointments during this period?
We advise everyone to access medical assistance remotely, wherever possible. However, if you have a scheduled hospital or other medical appointment during this period, talk to your GP or clinician to ensure you continue to receive the care you need and consider whether appointments can be postponed.

Suits me, there should be more of this.
... except it never happened. I'm sitting here still waiting for that call ... 48 hours later.

I received the telephone call and described my condition but then the GP wanted to set up a mobile telephone video link with "Whereby", which proved troublesome for various reasons including problems with mobile service providers. In the end I messaged him some photographs - he made a diagnosis and sent a prescription to my preferred pharmacy - I'll be off to collect it soon .....

Re: Surgery and Appointments

I think we have all come to expect our appointments with the Doctor but, in situations like this your Doctor can offer advice & medication from what you tell them over the phone. Years ago in Australia, this was the only way to look after patients who lived miles away. If it was very serious I think they had a few doctors who would fly to your home!

Perhaps phone appointments are our future as it would save a lot of time wasted, for the doctors and the patients, when many just come out with a prescription for something that offers relief for the symptoms.

If they manage to get video appointments, we may find that we have to do our own minor surgery procedures too!

Re: Surgery and Appointments

My Vitamin B12 injection is due at the beginning of April. I have rung the surgery twice, you are put into the usual queue but no one answers and your call is aborted.
I then contacted them by email to ask if my injection will still go ahead or will l not be allowed to go there if we are in isolation for months.

A receptionist has just rung me to say they can’t tell me anything at the moment as they are taking it day by day. She suggested l check their website daily to see what the position is.

I asked if l could have the injection done before the time and she said, she’d ask the nurses and get back to me.

Art, It is a sad fact that many people, who don't have the virus, will suffer poor health because the NHS cannot cope. Nobody seems to know what is happening, so can't make good balanced decisions.
Whatever has caused this will destroy many lives. With diabetes I am one of the at risk people, so I only go out if I really have to. On 23 April I have an appointment to see insulin specialists, to find out why mine is no longer working as it did. Over the last 30 years I have learned that it is easier to do your own research, so I have.... and it is the pill to make it work better that is causing it
An injection takes no longer than a few seconds, so tell them that, if they can't manage it, you can drive to Cheshire where your friend can do it for you!
