Re: Germany New LOCKDOWN.

Social distancing is far preferable and more effective than wearing a mask. A lot of the masks I see are home made out of old curtains etc, nowhere near the medical grade needed to prevent the spread of a virus.

As for the unions, that bunch of tossers haven't a clue either. People can go to Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda etc and walk around markets with social distancing and no PPE, but when they go to work, they suddenly need it ?

Maybe labours clear message will be to get a proposal thats better than the governments, hold a referendum and then vote against it, like they did last year. It's obvious that "be alert" is far too difficult to understand for educated lefties and the unions If they think that way, they should accept their lives will be very challenging indeed.

Re: Germany New LOCKDOWN.

For most people a work environment is different from schlepping around a supermarket. As for masks, ordinary things are not intended to shield from viruses. The aim is to shield against aerosols resulting from people sneezing or coughing that carry viruses.
As for "be alert" it is meaningless without setting out what people should be alert for.

For an example I would be alert for any hazardous situations such as crowds on public transport or people not wearing a mask and the action that I would take, another thing not recommended, would be to put considerably more than 2 metres distance between them and me.

But what about OTHER hazards to be on the look out for, and what to do? Joe Public isn't the sharpest knife in the draw at the best of times.

I didn't mean a public consultation. They usually consult businesses and organisations affected when they bring in major changes. So they should have communicated with schools unions and businesses on how they can introduce safety measures rather than just dump on them.

Some people do not understand the concept of social distancing. Even wearing a pair of knickers over their mouth is better than nothing. After all it works on other body secretions! If we all sat around with bare bottoms on trains I'm sure we would be catching all sorts. Same with face covering when there's a highly contagious disease around.

Eh ?

wearing an facemask that isn't fit for purpose is like wearing a dirty hanky over your face. The problem is then that you touch it an move it and put your fingers all over your face and rub your eyes etc.

If air can get through, so can microbes from a virus. Social distancing is much more effective and its not too complicated is it to keep 2m or 7 feet away from people ?

A bog standard face mask is not intended to intercept viruses. It is intended to intercept dust that might have viable viruses adhering to it or the aerosol that results from people sneezing or coughing or even breathing vigorously.

Surprisingly people jogging and especially cyclists can leave contaminated breath behind them. Just think about the condensation that is often visible in the winter. A basic mask will intercept it, at least it's better than nothing. Much better.

Then turn it on its head. Consider someone still asymptomatic but "brewing" the China plague and so infectious. That simple mask will intercept the aerosol they produce if coughing or sneezing or even if just "clearing their throat" and other vehicles viruses can use. Not the virus, but things it can and will travel on.

So tell me given all that does using a mask, even a basic one, not make a very great deal of sense?

Looks like a panty liner to me . They have sticky edges . Might even be one of his own if he’s a bit incontinent .
