Re: Who Can you Trust?
Didn't this happen a good while back, or is this yet another case, Swimmy?
I thought I remembered reading about this in my dog magazine some time ago.
I have always said, and still stick by it, that some show people are the biggest rogues going.
They are more interested in money and prestige than a dog's welfare - unless of course the dog is one that wins only red rosettes, and can therefore gain the breeder more money and prestige when mated.
Many years I got caught out myself by yet another unscrupulous breeder of GSD's. Well known and respected in the breed, who was breeding with unhealthy stock for money. Too long a story to go into now.
I know others, who have litters, then discard puppies who have so-called 'faults' simply because the poor little mites have a tail half an inch too short, or one ear that doesn't lay perfectly, or eyes not quite the correct colour for the breed standard judges.
I know another who fiddles a litter's paperwork, and sells puppies with false pedigrees - again for the money.
Her bitches are held, and forced to mate, litter after litter regardless of KC rules about this.
As long as an animal looks like a clone of the breed standard, no matter about health, how inbred it is, and/or temperament, it will be bunged in the show ring, either with the owner, or sometimes a professional 'runner' who will be paid to run their dog round the ring and make it look perfect.
Some breeders disgust me.
Rant over.
