Has anyone else noticed an abundance of Owls lately?
On my early morning dog walking trips recently I am always accompanied by at least 4 or 5 of them "talking" to each other from different parts of the woods. Not been aware of so many in previous years.
We hear Tawny owls regularly here, we are near woodland, the owls fly over our house. I think this time of year they are re-bonding which is why you are hearing them more often. They are very territorial & if other owls muscle into their area they see them off.
I hear tawnys when out for my early walks - they seem to like a natter when them come home to roost - never seen one though. We do see a a few Barn Owls about though - beautiful creatures!
Mags - owls all have different calls. The tawny is the twit towoo one. Barn owls are strange - almost like finger nails down a blackboard!

Thanks Tabby, that made google owl calls and I found this! .......
I too have never seen an owl in the wild and I spend at least a couple of hours a day in the forest, although I have heard the occasional twit twoo at night while in bed.
